Product Care

Venetian Bead Stringers by R. F. Blum, 1887/88
At TIPETTA®, everything is crafted to become a future heirloom.
If you’ve ever admired ancient glass beads in a museum, you know that they hold their breathtaking beauty forever, untouched by time. But while the glass itself is eternal, a little love and the right care for its precious metal settings will ensure the entire piece stays beautiful for years to come.
Jewellery Care
Daily Wear & Hazards
-
Keep it dry: Always remove your jewellery before washing hands, bathing, swimming, exercising, or doing heavy hands-on work.
- Perfume first, jewellery second: Cosmetics, lotions, hairsprays, and perfumes all contain chemicals and alcohol that can erode metal plating and dull the sheen of your piece. Always let them dry before putting your jewellery on.
Cleaning & Polishing
-
After wear wipe down: Gently wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth after wear to remove natural skin oils, which can tarnish metals over time. Remember to do this especially in summer time.
-
Gold Plated: Clean gently using only a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or chemical polishes, as these can wear away the gold layer of your piece.
- Sterling Silver: For a deeper clean, you can use a dedicated silver polishing cloth, or wash gently with warm water, a natural ph dish soap (avoid antibacterial ones), and a soft toothbrush. A mix of baking soda and warm water also works beautifully. Always dry your jewellery completely before storing it away.
- Please note: These are general guidelines. TIPETTA® cannot be held responsible for the outcome of any home cleaning. Remember that when in doubt, Google is your friend. There are plenty of good tutorials online.
Safe Storage
Tarnish is a natural reaction that happens when metals are exposed to air and moisture.
To help prevent this:
- Store your pieces in a cool, dark and dry place like a dedicated drawer, jewellery box or the soft pouch or box provided with your purchase.
- Pro-Tip: Store similar metals together, and keep jewellery in small, airtight zip-lock bags to block out air and moisture entirely.
- For extra care, consider making a small investment in anti tarnish storage strips.
Adjustable Rings
The adjustable rings are crafted from high-quality sterling silver, designed to be gently sized to fit your finger perfectly.
- Sterling silver is a precious, soft metal. While it is highly durable, bending it back and forth repeatedly creates metal fatigue, which will weaken the ring and eventually could cause it to snap. Find your perfect fit, adjust it gently, and try to keep it at that size.
- Please make sure you are completely happy with your ring before resizing it. Once a ring has been adjusted, we are unable to accept it for returns or exchanges.
Glass Buttons
Our unique glass buttons are beautiful but delicate additions to your sewing projects. Standard washing machines and tumble dryers may crack glass buttons, and broken glass could damage your washing machine drum.
To keep both your garment and your washing machine safe, we highly recommend:
- Safest Option: Carefully snip the buttons off before washing your garment, and stitch them back on afterward. The instructions are longer than the process itself.
- Alternative Options: Hand wash the garment gently, or take it to a professional dry cleaner who knows how to protect delicate buttons.
- If you choose to machine-wash a garment with our buttons attached, please do so at your own risk and ensure the buttons are fully covered or wrapped to cushion them from the metal drum.
Glassware
Our glassware is entirely handblown in Murano.
While each piece is dishwasher safe on a gentle cycle, we recommend hand washing to preserve its beauty for longer, as dishwasher detergents can gradually dull the glass colour over time.
